RIP Anthony Williams aka Roc Raida -- 1972-2009

We skipped the Double Shot this week in order to throw down a little tribute mix to the Grandmaster Roc Raida. The legendary producer, DJ and turntablist will be missed, but he will leave behind a legacy of sound that will be appreciated by many generations to come.

Double shot from Willie Evans Jr’s “Black Mega: The Remixes”. This proves that Willie Evans Jr. has got beats as he re-interprets some favourites of the Mr. Lif and Akrobatik catalogue. Honestly during both the Victoria and Vancouver Mr. Lif shows, I was impressed by Willie Evans’ stage show, which involved playing his original beats, rapping, and incorporating and synching various video clips to his performance. Although, “Black Mega” focuses mostly on Willie’s stellar beat making ability. Big M did pick up another one of Willie’s CD so aspect to hear the name and music in the future on URP, but in the meantime check out his myspace.

Double shot from Jadakiss' 3rd solo album, “The Last Kiss” on Roc-A-Fella Records. Jada has one of the most distinctive voices in hip-hop and a flow that is know to hypnotize listeners. I think “The Last Kiss” was worth the multiple delays as I think this is Jadakiss’ best work to date. However, Jadakiss doesn’t do it by himself evoking friends such as fellow D-Block members Sheek Louch & Styles P, along with Nas, the Neptunes, Ghostface & Raekwon to name a few.

We started things off by featuring a sick album by The Grouch and Eligh “Say G&E! Vol. 4”, which isn’t even officially out until April 7. However, in honor of a couple big shows G&E have coming up including SXSW and annual “Paid Dues” hip-hop festival we thought we should give our listeners the exclusive sneak peak. This album reminds my of another album myself and O-Dog are still bumping, 88 Keys “Death Of Adam”, similarly this album has a mix of sounds and guests (Gift of Gab, Pigeon John, Blu, Mistah Fab, etc) that all work to form an enjoyable musical experience. Featured a couple tracks off the brand new Grandmaster Flash album “The Bridge: Concept of a culture”. This is Flash’s first studio album in 11yrs, I guess that is what happens when you have a demanding schedule of touring the World. This album definitely reflects his global travels as he exposes us to several international MCs. But in general even with other legend appearances by Q-Tip, KRS-ONE, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Mr. Cheeks, Big Daddy Kane, Grandmaster CAZ this release is still more of a rental then a purchase.
