Once again it's on!
We pretty much got right into it, not only providing more scintillating conversation than Jeff Goldblum, but also the absolute best in Hip-Hop. Instead of doing a beat battle or double shot, we rocked the new Random Axe single, "Chewbacca". In other news, the name "Chewbacca" still receives the dreaded squiggly red typo line when typed in a Blogspot text box. This is a travesty, especially since I'm planning to name my second, fourth and twelfth child Chewbacca . Anyhow, the Random Axe LP drops a week from today and we are all rather pumped on that fact.
We were also feeling the fact that Summer finally seems to be on its way to Vancouver. Better late than never, right? Thanks, Mother Nature. I guess you were busy reigning absolute terror on Asia, South America and the Caribbean. However, in all seriousness, people need to stop complaining about poor weather or the lack of sunshine we are getting here in North America, when millions of people have been killed, injured and displaced around the world because of natural disasters. Donate a few bucks to relief efforts and help your fellow man, even if it means having a couple less 8 dollar cups of coffee.
We got into a ton of nice tunes for the nice weather, including a ton of DJ Quik, Fresh Prince, Rascalz, Rich Kidd and much, much more. Also hit up the URP Facebook page and LIKE us! Downloads, newsbits, and of course, scintillating conversation are the norm over at the Urban Renewal Project. Follow us on Twitter while you're at it!

We were back in full effect tonight, closing out the month of May in a positive way with our Double Shot of our choice cuts from the last 31 days. The Big M pick was Elzhi's version of Represent (surprise, surprise...), since it is a very tall order to go in on one of DJ Premier's best beats and not be outshined by Nas' mastery on Illmatic. Check the URP Facebook group to download "Elmatic" for free, you will not be disappointed! 2Face Al selected "Random Call" by Random Axe (Sean Price, Guilty Simpson & Black Milk), which gets us amped for the June 14th release of the Random Axe LP!
We were then joined by a veteran producer and Grammy winner, Chin, who has put down production for a laundry list of Hip-Hop artists including K'Naan, Drake, The Clipse, Eminem, 50 Cent and countless more. Chin will be in town this weekend (June 4th & 5th), hosting a Hip-Hop Production Masterclass at The Nimbus School of Recording Arts. Register now and get input on your music from a true production genius! Vancouver has been hosting many conventions such as this recently, which are a great way to gain valuable experience about the music industry. Young artists listen up!
We were shoulders deep in good music tonight, bumping everything from Common to Saukrates, Random Axe to Classified, Souls of Mischief to Pharoahe Monch, so there was a little something for every Hip-Hop head!

Just visit the www.CoOpRadio.org pledge page follow the steps to become a Co-Op member or renew your existing membership. Don't forget to mention that the Urban Renewal Project is your favourite show!
We kicked off this week with our usual beat battle and tonight's theme was tracks bigging up one's city. Coincidentally, both picks were cuts about Brooklyn. There was a ton of tracks to pick from, but Brooklyn artists seem to make the best tributes to their stomping ground. The Big M choice jam was Return of the Crooklyn Dodgers by Chubb Rock, Jeru The Damaja & OC, while 2Face Al's pick of the night was Brooklyn by M.O.P.. Both tracks are posted one the URP Facebook group, so check 'em out and let us know what you think!
Stay tuned in the weeks to come, as we have some tickets to some big shows that will go exclusively to listeners who become Co-Op members! We're already sending a supporter to Maseo's Vancouver stop on the 13th and there's more to come!

We decided to get the ball rolling with the beat battle, as usual. This week's theme was our favourite tracks from a movie soundtrack. Narrowing it down to one track each was no easy task, but we did our best. The Big M pick of the night was a personal favourite that only a small handful of people will agree with, but whatever: Pandemonium by The Pharcyde, from King Of New York. 2Face Al picked Am I Black Enough For You by Schoolly D. Agree? Disagree? Want to punch us in the face based on our choices? You can do two of the three at the URP Facebook Page.
We here at the Urban Renewal Project are fans of music in general, not only Hip-Hop, which is why we take a moment to acknowledge the work of Nirvana frontman, Kurt Cobain. Like him or not, you have to appreciate his approach to music. Rest In Power (Kurt Cobain February 20, 1967 – April 5, 1994)

We got into quite a show tonight, and really threw a curveball and decided to place the beat battle at the end of the show. Swing, strike three, yerrrrrouttathere. This week's edition was not so much a battle as it was a mini-tribute to tack onto the end of Sage's impromptu Nate Dogg set from last week, when we learned of the DPG crooner's passing about midway through the program. We picked particular tracks involving Nate not based on popularity, but our personal tastes. The two selections were 213's "Run On Up" and "O.G." by Daz featuring Snoop Dogg & Nate Dogg. Your thoughts? Check both tracks out on the URP Facebook page.
We also weighed in on the measures you can take to prevent internet data charging.

Before anything else, the Urban Renewal Project must encourage you to visit www.JapanLove.ca and help in any way you can. There are certain events that put things in perspective and make us realize the fortune we receive in comparison to other nations. Our donations go a long way.
As if the earthquakes weren't enough, we have just learned that Nate Dogg has passed away. Exact causes aren't known at this point but it's logical to assume the strokes he suffered within the last 4 years were a factor in the deterioration of his health. RIP Nathaniel "Nate Dogg" Hale (August 19, 1969 - March 15, 2011). He was only 41 years old.
We learned of Nate's passing partway through the show, so the only tunes that really mattered were the Nate Dogg jams... If for some reason you listen to us but don't know who he is, please google him. We shifted our focus towards an extensive Nate set as a tribute to an artist who was the definition of 'making your own lane'. His passing is a great tragedy that will be felt throughout the Hip-Hop community and beyond.
Stay tuned for the podcast to hear the set for yourself, until then, pop in your favourite DPG album and let it rock for Nate.

Broadcasting live from Columbia and Hastings in the heart of the vibrant Vancouver East Side!
Since today is International Women's Day, it was only right that the theme for tonight's Big M/TwoFace Al beat battle involved female MCs. There are way too many choices available for us to narrow it down to one track each, we know. Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Missy Elliot, Jean Grae, Rah Digga, Lauryn Hill, Lady Of Rage, Heather B, and the list continues. We each picked a track anyway though, for the sake of the sacred bit. The Big M selection was "Da B Side" by Da Brat (f/ Notorious BIG & Jermaine Dupri), while TwoFace Al chose Jean Grae's "Don't Rush Me". Both solid picks in our opinions, but don't fret because we got into an all-female MC set later in the show.
We also posted some of our other favourites on the URP Facebook Fanpage. Let us know what you think!
Medinah Starr, Tara Chase, Lil Kim, Apani B Fly, Foxy Brown and many other talented women found their way into the mix tonight, with some Nas, Stalley, Wiz Khalifa, Joell Ortiz and more sprinkled in for good measure. Don't hesitate to download this one, you won't be disappointed!

Jah!
We've seen a lot of Charlie Sheen in the news lately, which inspired the theme for this week's beat battle: Drugs. More specifically, the adverse effects of drugs in multiple settings and situations. Don't expect us to pick Purple Pills or Drug Ballad. URP Radio is for the kiiiids.
TwoFace Al's pick was Like A Window by Dead Prez & The Outlawz, which deals with the strain drugs can put on the family environment. A solid choice, which relates to the Big M pick of the night, D-Rugs by Cam'ron featuring Brotha. Cam took a metaphorical approach to the pitfalls of drug abuse and trafficking in arguably the strongest track in his catalog. If you haven't heard the tracks, hit the URP Facebook Fanpage to hear them!
We also unleashed on a bit of a tirade against Dr. Dre & Eminem's new video for I Need A Doctor. We appreciate that Eminem and Dre have grown over the years and that as such, we shouldn't expect the Slim Shady LP Eminem, nor should we be prepared to hear Dr. Dre from The Chronic days. But aside from the fact that the video is full of more product placement than you can shake a bottle of Gatorade at. That being said, we got love for legends still putting music out for the new generation.
We were then joined by a true trailblazer in Canadian music, Masia One. In addition to being the first female artist to be nominated for a Much Music Video Award in the Rap category, she has worked with dope artists from Vancouver to Jamaica. Her work with Grammy-winning producer Che Vicious connected her with the likes of The RZA, Talib Kweli, The Game, Eminem and many more legendary artists. Masia One truly is a multi-faceted artist with a smooth sound and you would be wise to stay on the lookout for her to break out even more so than she already has! Keep up with Masia One on www.MasiaOne.com! Big up!
We obviously gave Masia One some burn tonight, including a great dub of Rihanna's overplayed What's My Name jam which is up for download on www.MasiaOne.com, as well as some new Snoop, Lupe Fiasco, Heatwave, Saigon, GLC and many more!

Tonight the Urban Renewal Project got straight into the mix with some fire. Sage slung us up a serving of Blu, Nas, Saukrates and tons of other artists as a prelude to our interview with Boston MA. rapper: Wispers. He's got the "No Love" single banging for the streets and "Show Stopper" for the the clubs. Wispers is a veteran of the U.R.P and we enjoyed touching base with him once again.
Be sure to check him out on Facebook @ www.facebook.com/iamwispers
Our pace was torrid on this night, as DJ Sage spun as many tracks as he could fit into our 2 hour time frame. The focus of the week is on our debate about whether or not we should be listing all of the live shows going on in the near future. One side of the camp suggested that we just list who is in town and then instruct listeners to peep all of the dates on our page and blog. The other side suggested that it was stupid idea and that I should shut up. Innovation is so persecuted in our society.
Be sure to peep the podcasts, as always at www.urpradio.podomatic.com. Don't forget to LIKE us on Facebook. And if you HATE us on Facebook, thats cool too, its a free country. But rest assured the other listeners got our backs.
Anyways, special shout out goes to Big M and his girl of 2 years on their anniversary and we're hoping they had a blast at the Canucks vs. Canadiens game. I'm sure Big M was pleased with the outcome, no matter how it turned out as he is a supporter of both clubs. Finally, never forget your inherent human rights and your responsibilities to protecting these at all costs. Stay informed in this world. As we mentioned in the show for example, new information is out on the LAPD's involvement in the coverup of the murder of Christopher Wallace. Read up here: http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.14118/title.updated-evidence-supports-lapd-cover-up-in-notorious-big-murder.

We kicked off this evening's show with the now legendary Battle of the Beats segment. This week's theme: Money, dollars, ends, greenbacks, cash, flow, moola, bucks, gwap, and all other applicable synonyms. Once again, we strayed from the obvious picks, such as C.R.E.A.M., I Love The Dough, Gimme The Loot, and so on. The Big M pick of the night was DJ Babu & Rakaa Iriscience's Ends To Means, while TwoFace Al chose The Dough by Prodigy & Alchemist. Both solid tracks, and if you haven't heard them, hit up the URP Facebook page to take a listen and let us know what you think.
We were then joined by the MC half of Dragon Fli Empire, Teekay. We discussed some upcoming shows, particularly the February 21st stop at The Biltmore in Vancouver. Dragon Fli Empire will be tearing it down with Vancity's own Emotionz, among others! Hit up up www.DragonFliEmpire.com for many more tour dates and all the latest from the team, including a new release from the other half of Dragon Fli Empire, DJ Cosm. Also follow Teekay on Twitter RIGHT HERE.
As if that wasn't good enough, Heatwave and some of the Killawatt fam rolled through the studio to promote his new project, The Masses vol. 2. We also discussed Heatwave's artistic progression through doing all of his own mixing and recording on his first project. Vol. 2 lets the fans in on this progression. We also got into his relations with other Vancouver artists, as well as some huge upcoming shows in Vancouver: February 18th at Fortune Sound Club alongside Fashawn and Evidence, and February 23rd, opening for Dogg Pound at Bar None. Head over to www.KillawattRecords.ca for tour dates and of course, to download The Masses Vol. 2, FREE.99!

Posse Cuts were front and center when we kicked off tonight's show with the legendary beat battle we've established. We felt we needed to go off the map a bit for this one and avoid picking the obvious choices (The Symphony, Affirmative Action, Scenario, Buddy, etc...) just to switch it up a little bit. The Big M pick of the night was Reservoir Dogs by Jay-Z featuring Sauce Money, Beanie Sigel and The L.O.X., while Two Face Al went with Therapy by The Alchemist featuring Blu, Kid Cudi, Talib Kweli and Evidence. Stiff competition... what do you think? We posted both on the URP Facebook Fan Page, let us know!
We also bigged up a fallen soldier all night long with tons of classic tunes. We're referring to the late J Dilla, whose birthday was yesterday, February 7th. Even in a two hour program, we weren't able to get all of his best material in. If you aren't familiar with Dilla, we recommend getting on top of it and buying some of his music or even just scouring YouTube or something to understand just how many artists he blessed with top-notch production.

Our theme for this week's Beat Battle revolves around the songs about the ladies. We're not talking about throwing an R. Kelly (no disrespect) type crooner and spitting elementary rhymes about fat kids and cakes. We're referring to those tracks that you aren't embarrassed to bump while you're by yourself in the car or on the train. Our choices were pretty obvious, but the tracks were too dope to overlook. You probably could have guessed 'Renee' by The Lost Boyz, as well as 'You're All I Need' by Method Man f/ Mary J Blige, but hey, at least it gives us an opportunity to play these classics on a Tuesday night. Honorable mention to Mos Def's 'Ms. Fat Booty', Masta Ace's 'Brooklyn Masala' and half of LL Cool J's entire catalogue.
With the womanly theme fresh in our minds, we were joined by Brooklyn duo, M-Tri and Leecy T. She's the DJ, he's the rapper. M-Tri also works with The Sleepwalkas, whose recent single, 'Rhyme Flow' featuring Sadat X, was near the top of our 2010 charts. The duo breathe some true school air into the game, with as much chemistry as any DJ-MC combos we have ever heard. Make sure to listen to the interview and HIT UP THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE RIGHT HERE!
What do DJ Kool Herc's health, the Diddy and a pervert "accidentally" falling into jogging women's posteriors have in common? We discussed all of them on tonights edition of the Urban Renewal Project. Throw in some tracks from Nas, The Sleepwalkas, J. Cole, DL Incognito and Theo 3 and you got yourself a pretty damn good Hip-Hop radio show.

What's up cold world?
We braved the elements this week in order to bring some funk to your eardrums. As usual, we delivered and are once again revered as kings among men. No big deal.
However, it was due to those same elements that we had to forego the Double Shot and get right into the mix. The Double Shot may be in the process of being phased out in favour of a new bit in the next couple of weeks. Don't worry though, we'll still play choice cuts off all the newest and best in Hip-Hop.
Case in point, we featured the brand spankin' new cut from Freeway & Statik Selektah's 24-hour EP, "Statik-Free". It's called "From The Street" and features Lil Fame of MOP and Termanology, and yes, it is crazy. "Statik-Free" comes out any second now. Hit up your iTunes in the next day or so and get it on the cheap!
We also gave Tona, Jay Electronica, Ghostface, King Reign, Nate Dogg and many more some burn on tonight's program. Unfortunately, our audiologger is still on the proverbial fritz, so we are working on getting it back online to bring you our beloved podcasts. In the meantime, check us out on Facebook and Twitter -

We're back in the spot for 2011! Same dope formula, New Year!
We kicked off the New Year with a Double Shot from new EP from Termanology & Statik Selektah, collectively known as 1982. It's entitled “The Evening News” and is most likely tracks that didn't quite make the cut for their LP, released a few months ago. We joked that the tracks were throw-aways, but that 1982 throw-aways were better than most rappers' albums. While it is only 8 tracks long, it is a good grab on iTunes for the price! Check it out for sure.
We got into our favourite albums of 2010, with Freeway & Jake One's “The Stimulus Package”, The Roots' “How I Got Over”, Nas & Damien Marley's “Distant Relatives”, Termanology & Statik Selektah's “1982” and Rustee Juxx & Marco Polo's “The Execution” topping the URP list. Honorable mention to Curren$y's “Pilot Talk” and “Pilot Talk II”.
Tons of tunes in the mix as well, including some J. Cole, Curren$y, Pigeon Hole, Saukrates & Drake, and even some Dirt Nasty tonight! We also got into two separate 2010 Rap-Ups.

We didn't miss a beat this week, other than the fact we didn't do a Double Shot. We just got right into the music and let the music speak for itself! Props to anyone who checked out J. Cole at Fortune Sound Club last Tuesday (November 23rd). Respect to Vancouver MC, Son Real, who held it down as the shows opener as well. If you didn't go, you missed out!
Vancouver's own MC collective, Elekwent Folk, also joined us in our return to the airwaves tonight. They are taking their local Vantastic event on the road and over the water to Victoria this time around, so if you're one of the many Hip-Hop addicts over on Vancouver Island, make sure you come out and show your love! Moka Only, Panther, Headspace, The Elekwent Folk and more will be taking the stage on Tuesday, December 7th at Lucky Bar in Victoria. Get all the information on the Vantastic: Live In Victoria event page on Facebook!
Plenty of good music tonight, including a live jam from the Elekwent Folk. We also got into tracks from Anami Vice, Jay Kin, Clipse, Son Real, J. Cole and many more... Stay tuned for this podcast and our last one as well, right here on the URP Blog and on www.URPRadio.Podomatic.com.
Also, we must pay our respects to a fallen Canadian comedy legend, Leslie Nielsen, who passed away from Pneumonia on November 28th, 2010. He went peacefully, in his sleep.

We kicked it off with a Double Shot courtesy of Wu-Tang Clan member, Masta Killa. The album is entitled "Wu-Tang: The Next Chamber" and has a lot of rarities, as well as some cuts we haven't heard. The man who we credit for pulling the Wu back together with his solo debut, "No Said Date", has another solid release under his belt even though not all the tracks are new. Features include GZA, RZA, Raekwon, Pete Rock, Timbo King, Prodigal Sunn, RA The Rugged Man and Killah Priest. Check it!
We got into tons of good music, including a brief Ol' Dirty Bastard tribute. November 13th was the 6th anniversary of the most recognizable Wu-Tang member's passing. Check out the Urban Renewal Project on Facebook for the official video for Raekwon's tribute track, "Ason Jones". We also played some Kanye West, Common, Dr. Dre, Warren G, Joe Budden, Alex Dimez, Moka Only and many more!

Unfortunately, we didn't have time to get into a Double Shot tonight, but that's not to say that there weren't some good releases. Cee-Lo, Zion I, Eligh, Kid Cudi and Lord Jamar all dropped some material for the masses so do not sleep!
We were joined by an up-and-comer by the name of Anami Vice, who is coming with some refreshing, hearable and digestable material that draws some comparisons to Devin The Dude (courtesy of DJ Sage). Make sure you head over to www.AnamiVice.com and check out some of his tunes ASAP! Anami will be rocking at Bar None in the Yaletown area of Vancouver along with Okay City and more, so you have a chance to see him first-hand! Don't sleep!

We kicked off with a Double Shot from Devin The Dude's new album, Gotta Be Me, courtesy of Real Talk Entertainment. You know what to expect from Devin... laid back, everyman rhymes about the finer things in life. This album is no different and Devin fans will not be disappointed with his latest effort. Make sure you check out the album from one of the good guys in Hip-Hop!
We were then joined live in studio by Fortunato, one half of the Toronto-based duo, Angerville. The team has been making moves and has been in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island and Fortunato was good enough to stop by the station tonight and chop it up with us about the pros and cons of being an artist, collaborations from province-to-province and what's on the horizon for Angerville! Check them out at www.Angerville.tv ASAP and keep up with all things Angerville.
Plenty of tracks from Marco Polo, Angerville, Jeff Spec & Moka Only, The Beatnuts, Devin the Dude and more found their way into the mix tonight. On fire! Co-Op Radio's audio logger is also back in business, so expect the last two podcasts to be up ASAP on www.URPRadio.Blogspot.com and www.URPRadio.Podomatic.com soon, but for now here is this weeks!

We had to give some longtime Wu affiliates some shine this week, featuring a double shot from "One Man Army", the new album from Killarmy's 9th Prince which just came out courtesy of Babygrande. This is a good one for the dedicated Wu faithful, as he sticks with the style that made the Clan so successful. Features include the RZA, Kinetic, Outline and a few more. Check it out quick we could all use a Wu fix before Ghostface's new album comes out.
Since Kurupt's gonna be putting on a show, it was only natural to an extended DPG set that definitely brought back some memories... We also gave away some tickets to the Thursday October 14th show at Bar None in Vancouver, so if you're the Kurupt fan who was able to crack our staggering skill testing question, have a blast.
Tons of other tunes too from Atmosphere, Shad, E-40, De La Soul, Common and plenty more. Great vibe to tonight's show, just download the podcast soon and see for yourself!

We got our hands on GT2: Nu World, the new album from former Artifacts MC, El Da Sensei & The Returners, available October 12th of this year courtesy of Coalmine Records. If you're a fan of that classic boom-bap Hip-Hop, you won't be let down by the sounds coming through your speakers. Features include Treach from Naughty By Nature, Sean Price, Bekay, Akrobatik, Reks and more spitting over some tough production from The Returners (except for the closing track, which is a remix courtesy of M-Phazes). This album is definitely a throwback to that 90s sound we all know and love. Check it out when it's officially released!
There's also tons of artists performing in Vancouver in the weeks to come, including DJ Premier, Kurupt, The Rascalz, Frank Nitt & Illa J, 3-6 Mafia, K-Os, Wiz Khalifa & Yelawolf and Big Boi, so make sure you keep your eyes and ears out if you wanna catch some quality shows in the near future! Respect goes out to the promoters and venues such as Fortune Sound Club and Bar None for housing shows like these and keeping Vancouver hip-hop heads entertained!

Another great show to rock with for another Tuesday night in Vancouver or wherever you're at! We kicked off with a Double Shot from Ski Beatz much-anticipated album, 24 Hour Karate School. Ski Beatz has been putting it down for a minute, producing classic cuts for Jay-Z, Camp Lo, Curren$y, Original Flavor and Big Pun, so it's a logical assumption that the beats will be top-notch on this one. Ski lays down a hard-hitting vibe with his production and the rhymes are provided by veterans such as Jean Grae, Camp Lo, Ras Kass as well as Curren$y, Wiz Khalifa, Jay Electronica, Stalley and more. The album is definitely worth checking out, so hit up the local music store (physical or online) and support some quality Hip-Hop!
We then got into an interview with Quite Nyce & SEEK, the Massachussets duo collectively known as RADix. We discussed their group name, producer/MC duos, and their upcoming album with none other than a personal favourite of the URP, Statik Selektah. We've heard a few cuts from the album and if the rest follows suit, it should be a classic! Check out RADix at www.RADixHIPHOP.com to keep up with releases, tour dates and more! Get your social network on through the website as well!
As usual, we burned up the airwaves with some quality tunes from the likes of Smif-N-Wessun, Pete Rock & Raekwon, Tona, Jeff Spec, Fabolous & Jay-Z, 2Pac, Bun B and plenty more.

We skipped the Double Shot this week and got right into the tunes because, well, we weren't really feeling much that came out this week. Next week is looking good though, with Black Milk, Rah Digga, Rustee Juxx and Watchmen all releasing music. A deluxe edition of Pete Rock & CL Smooth's Mecca And The Soul Brother is also coming out on the 17th, including a 20 page liner booklet, unreleased versions of classic tracks, acapellas and instrumentals.
We were then joined by a friend of the show, Roc C. We featured his new album, Scapegoat, which was released digitally a couple weeks back. The physical copy was released today so it was only right that we reached out to him tonight! We discussed distribution, writing, touring, collaborating and more! Check him out at www.MySpace.com/RocThisWay and support Scapegoat! Worth every penny, no coaster.

Host, BigM, was fortunate enough to make it to the NYC leg of the Rock The Bells tour so this week's show was giving the people a review of the best show he witnessed! DJ Premier, Slick Rick, Rakim, KRS-One, Brother Ali, DJ Muggs & Ill Bill, Lauryn Hill, A Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang Clan, Snoop Dogg and many more tore it down and made it difficult for Guerilla Union to top this year's lineup. Check out the podcast for the review!
We also got into a Double Shot from DJ Muggs & Ill Bill's collaboration album, Kill Devil Hills. As expected, Muggs comes with the sinister beats that have made him one of the most consistent (while underrated) producers in Hip-Hop and Ill Bill brings the energy-laden vocals that complement the beats nicely. Appearances from B-Real, Raekwon, Sean Price, Slaine, Vinnie Paz and more are nice additions to the album and contribute to making it an album worth your while!

We set it off with a Double Shot from the new album courtesy of our friend Roc C, "Scapegoat". We've had Roc on the show before and will be getting him back in the weeks to come to discuss the project, which we are feeling here at the URP. Hit up Roc at www.MySpace.com/RocThisWay to keep up on all the moves being made by the California vet!
We then got into an interview with Brooklyn mainstays, The Sleepwalkas. We discussed their history in the game, collaborations with the likes of Sadat X, plans for their next project as well as how the collective came together to put out Hip-Hop music that pays homage to the old, looks ahead to the future and deals with the present. Check out The Sleepwalkas on pretty much every social networking site, including Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Bandcamp and Reverb Nation!

Another Tuesday means you will be absorbing the best Hip-Hop has to offer! Underground, mainstream, classic, new and old, we spin it all.
We featured Wale's new mixtape, "More About Nothing" as our Double Shot this week. The follow-up to his acclaimed 2008 Seinfeld-themed "Mixtape About Nothing" definitely lives up to its predecessor and showcases what Wale is all about. Even if you weren't feeling his debut LP, you'll enjoy this mixtape. Here's hoping this style of record continues onto his sophmore LP. Download the mixtape, we got it a few posts down.
No interviews this week, which means tons of tunes in rotation tonight. Everything from Jay-Z to The Sleepwalkas to The Clipse to Choclair, we got you covered! We also ran down a ton of August show dates in the Vancouver area from local favourite Snak The Ripper. He's on tour with none other than R.A. The Rugged Man and will be tearing it down once again, this time with some all-ages shows! Hit the podcast to get the dates and check out his FACEBOOK PAGE to keep up with Snak.

We kicked it off once again by featuring what is reportedly Slum Village's final studio album. The group has had its fair share of hardship over the years, losing the legendary producer J. Dilla in February of 2006, and Baatin in July of 2009. Nonetheless, they have written the group's final chapter with Villa Manifesto. Both Baatin and Dilla make posthumous appearances on this very good album that deserves to be supported. Make sure you check this disc out or you will be stuck regretting not knowing what's what!
DJ Quickie Mart was first up to bat tonight, chatting with us live from New Orleans. The producer/DJ has been making big moves bouncing back and forth from NO to LA, working with Freddie Gibbs, Gotham Green and many more but took the time out of his schedule to chop it up with us! We discussed the struggles facing New Orleans in the light of the BP oil spill, old school samples, the Haze series and more! Check out The Haze Diaries Vol. 3 with Gotham Green and keep up with Quickie Mart at www.MySpace.com/QuickieMart and www.DJQuickieMart.com.
We were then joined by Lee, one half of the Vancouver duo, Pigeon Hole. They have just recently released Age Like Astronauts, which is a great album that should not be slept on. If you are a fan of the Sweatshop Union (which Pigeon Hole are a part of), you will love this LP. We discussed the group's production process, touring and more! Make sure you check out the album ASAP and stay on top of things by visiting www.MySpace.com/PigeonHoleMusic or their URBnet page!

We are broadcasting LIVE from a sweatbox studio on another Tuesday night! We dove right into a double shot from Rakaa's new album, Crown Of Thorns, available today! We had the Dilated Peoples MC on the show a couple weeks back, and he promised a heater of an album and did not disappoint! We've been spinning some cuts from the album in the past month or so and the project is solid! Definitely check this one out ASAP.
Following a short mix, we were joined by a friend of the show, the outspoken Toronto MC by the name of D-Sisive. D has been making some big moves in the past few years, including collaborations with Saukrates and releasing albums at a fast pace. We discussed his new disc, Vaudeville, his liasons with West coast artists such as Moka Only and The Sweatshop Union, his unique and artistic approach to Hip-Hop and the renewed appreciation he has received since making his return to music. Definitely check out D-Sisive at www.MySpace.com/DSisive and www.Urbnet.com/artist-dsisive.asp
We were working with an abbreviated crew tonight, with only DJ Sage and Big M in the spot. We held it down though, and got into plenty of great tracks, no lie. We set it off with another much-anticipated Double Shot, featuring Capone-N-Noreaga's latest disc, “The War Report 2”. Whenever an artist puts '2' after the title of a classic album, it creates some pretty high expectations. Unfortunately for CNN, the general consensus from the URP is that TWR2 doesn't deliver enough quality tracks to be considered on the same level as the original War Report. While there are some solid tracks and features (Nas, Raekwon and more) on the album, it does fall a bit short. It's still worth checking out if you're a diehard QB fan though!
We were then joined by Urban Renewal Project favourites, North Carolina representers, Kooley High. The collective has been putting it down for a minute now, and have their debut album, Eastern Standard Time, dropping on July 27th of this year. We discussed the group dynamic within Kooley High, the feeling of finally dropping an album and much more. Check out www.KooleyHigh.com for all the latest news, tour dates, downloads and more from Kooley High! Keep an eye out for “Eastern Standard Time”, which will be available wherever fine music is sold (iTunes, Amazon, ect...).
We also had Vancouver's own SonReal stop by the studio to plug his new, free mixtape, entitled “The Lightyear Mixtape” and his performance at Fortune Sound Club on July 14th. The kid's been in the game for a minute, released a couple albums and is making big moves with some very notable names in the Canadian Hip-Hop scene. Check out www.SonReal.ca for tour dates, downloads, videos and all the latest from SonReal!

We got into a Summer-friendly Double Shot this week, featuring Big Boi's new album, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty. This is Big Boi's first album without his partner in rhyme, Andre 3000, not counting Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. However, Andre does make an appearance on a bonus track, joining other heavyweights such as T.I., B.o.B., Jamie Foxx, Sleepy Brown, George Clinton, Too $hort and Khujo. We got right into the tunes tonight by featuring what is perhaps the most anticipated Canadian hip-hop album of all time, Drake’s “Thank Me Later”. Say what you will about Drake, but he has been doing it extra big with the likes of Saukrates, Jay-Z, Lil' Wayne, Young Jeezy, and plenty more. It's good to see a Canadian artists getting worldwide attention like he is. It also wouldn't hurt to support the album legally so Canadian music can get that shine in the US!
We also pulled off a 1st for us here at the Urban Renewal Project by doing an interview with 2 artists, one in-studio and one over the phone! We had Vancouver's Fallan Soldier in the spot while we linked up with Teekay (of Dragon Fli Empire) on the line from Calgary. Teekay & Fallan Soldier are embarking on the Move The Mountains tour that seeks to bridge the gap between artists in Western Canada. The tour is making stops in Nanaimo (Spice Lounge), Victoria (Lucky Bar) and Vancouver (The Cobalt - which, by the way, is no longer a metal bar) on the 17t, 18th and 19th, respectively.
You can check out Fallan Soldier online at www.Facebook.com/FallanSoldier, www.MySpace.com/FallanSoldier and www.Twitter.com/@FallanSoldier. Teekay and the Dragon Fli Empire can be reached online at www.Facebook.com/DragonFliEmpire and www.Twitter.com/@TeekayDFE. Don't sleep on this top-notch Western Canadian talent!
We got into a gamut of music, including tracks from 8thW1, Dragon Fli Empire, Fallan Soldier, Nas & Damian Marley, Canibus, Nikki Lynette, Drake, and plenty more... make sure you check out the podcast now.

We got into a dope Double Shot from a good friend of the show, Homeboy Sandman. His new album "The Good Sun". You may know him from sick tracks such "Gun Control" and one of our Urban Renewal Project intro tracks. The album is sick, and this young gun has a bright future thanks to his unique flow and content. Check him, and the album out at www.HomeboySandman.com
We also have been reminiscing over the legendary Hip-Hop publication, The Source. We weighed in on whether or not the albums that earned the 5 mic rating really deserved it. Next week, we'll check out the albums that were retroactively given the top rating. Expect a post on the URP blog (www.UrbanRenewalProject.net) further investigating this topic! Feel free to leave your 2 cents in the comments section!
We also got into a cypher which included the resident, 2Face Al, Divid'ID and Big Moss...the boys tore it to shreds so make sure you keep it locked for that!

We got into a much anticipated Double Shot this week, featuring Nas & Damian Marley - "Distinct Relatives". The album has the unfortunate task of living up to the high hopes of fans around the world and delivers as best as possible. It might take a few spins to fully appreciate it, but Nas and Jr. Gong have released an album that will breathe fresh air into mainstream Hip-Hop.
It's a good time to be a Hip-Hop fan in Vancouver as there are a GAMUT of acts playing shows in the city as we move closer and closer to the Summer. Don't miss out on the Straight Skills DJ Competition, Sweatshop Union, Public Enemy, Snak The Ripper, The Scale Breakers, EPMD, Just Blaze, Reflection Eternal and Warren G, among others, all in and around Vancouver. Listen to the podcast for exact dates, or get those digits working and search online.
2Face Al was also challenged by Needle Knieval to bust an impromptu conscious freestyle about immigration, oil spills and managed to diss on many different individuals. Hopefully they hear it and try to do something about it.
